Sun, wind and smoke; next week vegetarians!

May 3rd, 2011

When the weather here is good, it is such a joy.  From our garth, where we do most of the smoking we can see the whole of the north pennines as well as the lakeland fells to the west.  This weekend (after the heat haze had burnt off!) we could see Cross Fell and Blencathra in all their majesty.  But that doesn’t tell the story of the wind – it was very much a case of Smoky Jo and windswept Georgina.  I enlisted the help of our guests to take down our pop-up.  It was well secured but had it broken free it would have been halted in it’s tracks by smokers’ cars….   Anyway, we had a wonderful day – we have had a bit of down time with family staying for Easter – and although we work hard during the courses it still feels as though we have had an unbroken couple of weeks off!  This is of course almost entirely due to the quality of people choosing to learn food smoking with Smoky Jo’s.  We wondered for a while how come we get to meet such nice people on our courses; someone enlightened us:  Interested people tend to be interesting!

I have posted some more photos on the gallery.

Next week we are entertaining vegetarians!  We hoped to have a course just for vegetarians but in spite of our best efforts we have not managed to recruit enough.  It hasn’t stopped us experimenting and I think we will have some surprises in store…  The course is now open to anyone – if you are vegetarian rest assured your requirements will be respected, if you are an ominivore you will smoke all you would wish to AND get to sample smoked goodies that you would not normally have thought of.  A discount is available so if you can make it this Saturday 7th May, call now! 01931 716638.
