Our first smoking course at English Lakes Hotel the Wild Boar Inn seems a long time ago now… but we certainly remember journalist Gillian Hook enjoying the day and the food – and we enjoyed her company!

The inn boasts its own grill and smokehouse and, in conjunction with local experts at Smoky Jo’s, they offer a course in smoking your own food. The one-day course is £99 and you can stay for two nights from £156. Contact the hotel to book.

The best bit is that you get to taste the results, both at lunch and in the evening when hosts Jo and Georgina join you for smoked trout mousse, flaked salmon, whole ham and seafood, plus smoked steak from head chef Marc Sanders’ kitchen.”
