This week we were invited to The Wild Boar for one of their ‘Steak Holder’ evenings. These are fun events whereby they have a get-together for some clients, suppliers, staff and friends to showcase their great menus.
Last time we went was in January for Burns Night when we were served a wonderful menu, had a short talk about the meat we were eating from one of their local suppliers and then finished off the evening with a whiskey tasting from the Balvenie distillery – and a great night was had by all!
This week it was our turn. The menu was showing off some of their smoked food – all smoked at the Inn’s own smokehouse. We started with smoked wild boar sausages and home made pork scratchings with hot apple sauce. This was followed by a selection of bread with dripping and then came a smoked sirloin steak on the bone. It was HUGE! Utterly delicious and cooked to perfection. Served with a pot of slices of tongue and ox tail in a rich stock with a large round of bubble and squeek. What a treat!
